"A Contract with God" to be made into movie

According to the official Will Eisner website, "A Contract with God" will be made into a live action feature film, with principal photography scheduled for sometime in 2011. This was announced last summer at Comic-Con.

  1. I wonder how it will look visually compared to other Graphic Novel film adaptations like 300, Sin City, etc.. It sure will be interesting to see how it is interpreted on the big screen!

  2. Very interesting! I wonder which I will prefer? As always books are always better than films, but because I don't have much experience with graphic novels and comic books I'm interested to see which will be more intriguing to me!

  3. I don't know if I would like to see A Contract With God on film or not. I think the movie industry is doing way to many graphic novels, comic books and putting them on film. In some cases movie companies are doing a very poor job of casting the characters how they should be. Movies such as Superman, Spiderman, and the worst of movies has been Fantastic Four. Unless it's directed by a good director who an portray them how they should be such as Frank Miller I don't think I would be very interested in seeing the film.

  4. When I recently read that Wonder Womans look was changing and heard that this may be a pre-remptive movie move I have to say I became a little aggravated. There have been a slew of comic based movies in the last few years and while they have all (on some level) lived up to certain aspects of their comics I think sometimes print should stay in print.
I don't think I would like to see Contract with God in color or as a movie. I think half of the appreciation I have for the novel comes from the way the art is used (the black and white) to portray the stories and images.
While some comic movies were good to see the sequels were a bit much and overall they were not overly impressive. I would hate to see Contract with God lost to a poor interpretation or sub par production. I say keep it in print!

  5. First reaction WHAT??? 2nd I'm not sure I like this, I mean I understand that the next step from comics is to go to movies, but still something is lost in the subtraction of the pulp. I think its silly Will Eisner was comic for a reason not a script rider the medium is usually the best that fits that story, and while its not always bad to add to the medium it changes the ideas one can have about the medium. I'll reserve judgment, but I'm cautious.
